Thrive Parent Groups – Kraft YMCA

Parents of young adults are invited to a bi-weekly group meeting on Sunday afternoons at 1:00, beginning July 16th. We will alternate between a discussion group on the 16th, a guest speaker on the 30th, discussion on 8/13 and speaker on 8/27.

 

Discussions will be moderated and facilitated to try and give everyone an opportunity to request input from others, share their stories, and respect one another’s need to do the same. We welcome parents of children aged 17-35 who have any type of disability diagnosis! We’ll discuss topics like the following:

 

• Navigating services and supports
• Social needs of your child
• Transitions from school-based supports

 

For the guest speaker gatherings, parents have said they want to hear about:

1. Local Services
2. Special Needs Trusts
3. Job opportunities
4. SSI limitations
5. Finding local resources
6. Group homes or housing alternatives
7. Inclusion for all
