We are partnering with Activate Good for the National Day of Service and Remembrance to serve in the community. Inclusive volunteering is a way to provide opportunities for youth and young adults to use their gifts to help others. For too long, volunteering has excluded those with disabilities.
We hope that this Day of Service will be the start of an ongoing program to provide a chance for our youth & young adults to serve others. Some of our participants have been very vocal that they are tired of being seen as a “mission field” and want to be able to help other people, too! https://bit.ly/Sept11DayofService
Volunteering helps build social skills, increase awareness of the abilities of those we serve, provide a sense of meaning and purpose and builds resume skills should the young adult want to find gainful employment! It is a great pathway to self-determination, advocacy, and a sense of becoming. A better quality of life can become a reality when we treat these young adults with respect and value what they have to offer!
